POKOTABI / PLACES WORTH A DETOUR
Tacos Bar Resaca
Slow-cooked pork carnitas confited in lard, alongside chicken tinga and chorizo: this bar in Tabata-Shinmachi serves tacos with lime, craft beer and tequila.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Carnitas tacos are the signature dish and an appealing place to start. The menu describes them as a classic made with pork confited slowly in lard. Diners have said that the acidity and fragrance of the accompanying lime cut through the richness of the meat, making the tacos a good match for beer. Those who ate in and those who tried them as takeaway both enjoyed them. Some visitors also report that tacos can be ordered one at a time, making it easy to begin with carnitas and then try another filling.
Chicken tinga is another classic option: chicken marinated in smoked chilli and tomato sauce. Chorizo offers a different flavour, with spicy Mexican chorizo and sautéed burdock root. The menu also lists bistec, beef with mashed potato and cheese, and fried cod, both available only at weekends. Depending on the day of your visit, you may be able to try a taco beyond the usual three.
Choosing a drink to go with your tacos is part of the appeal. The craft beer selection includes a lager with yuzu and a pale ale infused with mint and sansho peppercorns. Mexican beers are available too, and visitors have praised the range of tequila and mezcal. The tequila menu includes a reposado aged for 8 months, which can be enjoyed neat or with soda. There is also homemade craft cola for anyone avoiding alcohol.
Tacos Bar Resaca in Tabata-Shinmachi is a casual bar with dine-in seating. It is described as suitable for solo diners, whether you want to start with one taco and a drink or try several fillings.
